10 Days / 9 Nights Western Ethiopia tour

Day 01: Arrive at Bole international airport (ADD). Upon your arrival be welcomed; (Meet and greet service) and transfer to reserved hotel by Myseru  tour managers .  If your arrival time is early or morning after rest in your hotel you will go out for City tour of  Addis . Overnight at Hotel Addis.

Day 02: Today morning  depart from Addis Ababa to Jimma via Weliso, which is home to the Gurage tribe.  On the way you will pass through the beautiful landscapes continue driving through the Gibe River Valley. Overnight Jimma, Central Jimma hotel.

Day 03: Today morning after breakfast in the hotel start discovering  attractions of the historical center Jimma town   such as ; the Palace of Abba jiffar, Museum the former King of Jimma, continue  drive to Mizan Tefari via Bonga.  Bonga is in ancient Kingdom of Kaffa, the birthplace of coffee.  En route visit traditional Kaffa house and learn about the culture of the Kaffa people.  You will also pass through the Belete Forest, where you can visit the Colobus monkeys. Overnight at Mizan Teferi in  a hotel.

Day 04: Departing Mizan Teferi then proceeds to Metu. On  the way, stop for a hike to visit the Sor Water fall. Overnight stay at Metu.

Day05:  Continue from Metu to Gambella via Bure. After passing Bure, you will descend into the Baro Valley to the steamy Western Lowlands, finally arriving in the town of Gambella, set on the Banks of the Baro River. Overnight in Gambella (hotel).

Day 06: Today you will explore the Gambella National Park, heading south to Lake Alwara and Lake Tata.  Gambella National Park is the most remote National Park in Ethiopia and is full of interesting and unique wildlife including the shoebill stork as well as elephants, baboons, buffalo, lion, antelope and monkeys.  Lake Tata is home to local Anuak people, and you will camp nearby their village.

Day 07: Morning  visit in detail the Gambella National Park and its inhabitants - the Anuak and Nuer people.  Return to Gambella for overnight (hotel).

Day 8: Departing from Gambella, we return to the highlands to the town of Nekemte.  On the way you will pass through the Didesa Wildlife Sanctuary, home to many large mammals.  Overnight in Nekemte.

Day 09: From Nekemte, continue to Ambo.  With several waterfalls in the area, this is a nice area for small hikes and fresh air. Overnight in Ambo, where you can bathe in the therapeutic hot spring pool.

Day 10: Today we depart from Ambo to Addis Ababa, stopping at Lake Wanchi for the day.  Lake Wanchi sits in the collapsed crater of Mt. Wanchi and is home to an island monastery - Cherkos which can be visited by local boat.  Finally, return to Addis Ababa.

Day 1: Arrive in Addis Ababa meet and greet service will be  by our tour managers at the airport then, transfer to Hotel for check in. ( City tour of Addis will be since your arrival is morning or Afternoon.) Overnight and Dinner Hotel in Addis.

Day 2: Drive Addis Ababa- Nekemt
After breakfast drive to Nekemte through the Western direction of the country visiting the beautiful scenery and the Shoea and Wolega Oromo tribes and their village . Overnight stay in local hotel Nekemt.  

Day 3: Nekemt - Metu
After breakfast drive to Metu: Crossing Didesa River we will stop at the town of Bedele for lunch, and then drive through the indigenous natural forests of Western Ethiopia while having a good experience of the life of the local people residing in the region. Overnight in a local hotel at Metu.    

Day 4: Metu- Gambella
Continue driving to Gambella via Gore. Today also drive through the indigenous natural forest of Western Ethiopia. This place is the famous place in tea farm. En route you will visit the large Gumero tea field. Overnight stay at Gambella in reserved Hotel.

Day 5:  Gambella
The major two tribes living in Gambella town are the Nuer and Anuak people. In the Morning visit the Nuer people. In the afternoon visit The Anuak people. Overnight Gambella Ethiopia Hotel.

Day 6: Gambella - Mizan Teferi
Drive from Gambella to Mizan Teferi through Bebeka Coffee plantation, which is Ethiopia's largest and oldest coffee plantation. On the way visit the Menit, Yem and the Dizi Tribes. Overnight  in Eden Hotel, a hotel with private toilet and clean bathroom.

Day 7: Kibish
Continue driving further to the West from Mizan Teferi to Kibish   through Bebeka Coffee plantation, the Ethiopia’s largest old coffee plantation. On the way visit the Menit tribe. After crossing the Akobo River you will experience the African Savanna grass land.You will stop at the little town of Dimma for lunch. Continue driving further west to Tulgit and then to Kibish. Tulgit and Kibish are small towns of the Surma people.  Many more Surma people live in Kibish town. The rest of the days walk around your campsite to visit the Surma people .Overnight camping at Kibish.

Day 8: Around Kibish
In the morning if there is any Donga (Stick fighting of the Surma people) you will attend it. Otherwise you walk around the old Kibish village (14kms round trip) for the visit of more of the Surma villages-to visit and appreciate the very attractive culture of Surma tribe, they are renowned for the strange custom followed by their women who, on reaching maturity, have their lower lips slit and circular or rectangular clay discs inserted. The Surma men are well known for their stick fighting, which is called Donga. Players are usually unmarried men. The winner is carried away on a platform of poles to a group of girls waiting at the side of the arena who decide among themselves which of them will ask for his hand in marriage. Taking part in a stick fight is considered to be more important than winning it.The men paint their bodies with a mixture of chalk and water before the fight.Overnight camping at Kibish.

Day 9: Kibish - Bebeka
Drive the same way back via Dima town to Bebeka town near the town of Mizan Teferi. Overnight  Bebeka Gust House.

Day 10: Bebeka - Jimma
Drive from Mizan Teferi to Jimma (240 kms) through the Ethiopia's indigenous dense forest. The people living in this area are from Kefecho, Yem and Bench ethnic groups. This place is famous in coffee, tea and spice growing from other part of the country.Overnight in Welde Argi Hotel  at Jimma.

Day 11:   Jima Addis Ababa
After breakfast drive back to Addis Ababa; En route you will Visit one of the Oromo Villages. Evening we will have a fare well dinner in one of the Ethiopian restaurants for cultural dinner and dances from the different ethnic groups. Then after transfer to the airport for flight back to home.

Day 1: Arrival –Addis Ababa/Bole international Airport
Meet and greet service at the Airport and city tour in Addis. Overnight Addis hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Jimma
Depart from Addis Ababa to Jimma via Weliso, which is home to the Gurage tribe, known as “the hardest working people in Ethiopia”. On the way you will pass through beautiful landscapes as you drive through the Gibe River Valley. Overnight in Jimma  at hotel central Jimma .

Day 3: Jimma- Mizan Tefari
Continue your drive to Mizan Tefari via Bonga. Bonga is in ancient Kingdom of Kaffa, the birthplace of coffee. You will have an opportunity to visit a traditional Kaffa house and learn about the culture of the Kaffa people. You will also pass through the Belete Forest, where you can visit the Colobus monkeys.

Day 3: Mizan Tefari -   Kibish
Depart from Mizan Tefari to Kibish. On the way, visit the Bebeka coffee plantation, where they cultivate organic coffee trees as well as rubber trees. You can also learn about the coffee processing techniques. Afterwards, pass through Dima, which is home to the Inuak tribe; here you can visit these tribes and learn about their culture. Overnight  camping in Kibish.

Day 4: Visit the Surma Village
Today you enjoy the surroundings of Kibish, including visiting a Surma tribe near the village. Overnight  camping at  Kibish.

Day 5: Drive to Tulgit
After good  breakfast, depart 25 km to the Surma village of Tulgit, where you can visit with the local Surma people. Also, if you’re lucky, see the Surma stick-fighting competition, known as Donga. Here, men from different local villages meet and compete against each other, winning the respect of the maiden ladies in the crowd. Overnight  camping in Tum.

Day 6: Excrusion to Maji
From Tum, take a day trip to Maji, where you will meet with the Dizi, Surma, Tishena, and perhaps the Bume tribe. If lucky, you will visit on market day (Saturday), which is a wonderful opportunity to meet and mingle with the local tribes. Return to Tum for overnight.
Day 7: Drive back to Bebeka
Today continue driving to Bebeka. Overnight at Bebeka guest house.

Day 8: Drive to Metu
Today you will drive to Metu. Along the way you can visit the Sor waterfalls. Overnight in Metu.

Day 9: Drive to Gambela
Continue driving from Metu to Gambela, descending from Metu into the steamy lowlands, home to Gambela. Overnight in Gambela.

Day 10: Excursion to Gambela  Natioanl Park
Drive into the Gambela National Park, home to wonderful birdlife, as well as elephants, baboons, buffalo, lion, antelope, monkeys, and other antelope. Overnight camping in Gambela National Park.

Day 11: Excursion to Anuak and Nuer Village
Today you will continue to explore Gambela National Park and the people living in the area – the Anuak and Nuer people. Overnight in Gambela.

Day 12: Drive to Nekemte
Today we depart from Gambela, driving to Nekemte. Overnight in Nekemte.

Day 13: Drive to Ambo
Overnight stay in Ambo 

Day 14: Visit the Crater Lake Wenchi and drive back to Addis Ababa
Take a boat trip on Lake Wenchi to the island that houses Cherkos church. Afterwards, continue driving back to Addis Ababa.

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa   Meet  and greet will be served by Myseru tour managers at Bole International Air port.

Then transfer to your hotel, and have attractive city tour in Addis Ababa   beginning with a visit to the National Museum, one of the most important sub- Saharan museums in all of Africa. Then continue to visit the Ethnological Museum, which was the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie I. After lunch, you will take time in Holy Trinity Cathedral. Day 2: Drive to Jimma

After an early breakfast you drive to Jimma via Weliso, which is home to the Gurage tribe, known as “the hardest working people in Ethiopia”. Day 3: Drive to Mizan Tefari

Day 5: Visit the Omo National Park

An early drive after breakfast will visit Omo National Park, where you can see wildlife such as Oryx, eland, zebra, buffalo, waterbuck, kudu, hartebeest, and maybe (if you’re lucky) lion, leopard, or cheetah.  Overnight camping in Omo National Park.

Day 7: Drive back Kibish

After breakfast you will driven to Kibish, visiting the Surma tribe near the village.  Overnight camping in Kibish.

Day 8: Drive to Tulgit

Day 16: Visit Lake Wonchi Crater Lake and drive to Addis Ababa

Today you will visit Lake Wonchi, a crater lake hosting an island monastery, hot springs and stunning scenery.  You may take a boat trip on Lake Wenchi to visit the Cherkos monastery on the island.  Horse riding is also available. Day 01: Arrive in Addis Ababa

Transfer from the airport, and settle in to your hotel.   Relax this morning before visiting the National Archaeological Museum and meeting its famous guest, Lucy, whose 3.4 million-year-old bones may be viewed in replica. Continue to the Ethnographic Museum, which chronicles Ethiopia’s rich ethnic diver-city. Overnight hotel Addis .

Day 2: Nekemt :-  After breakfast drive west to Nekemt through beautiful scenery and visit the Shoea and Wolega Oromo tribes and their villages. Overnight hotel Nekemt.

Day 3: Nekemt :-  Metu After breakfast drive to Metu. After crossing the Dedisa River we will stop at the town of Bedele for lunch. You drive through indigenous natural forests of Western Ethiopia and it is a good opportunity to see the life of the local people re-siding in the region. Overnight hotel

Day 4: Metu Gambella :- Continue driving to Gambella via Gore, through the indigenous natural forest of western Ethiopia. The area is famous for tea plantations. En route you will visit the Gumero tea field. Overnight hotel in Gambela.

Day 7: Asossa :- In the morning visit the Ganzo people ans we will have a 1 hr trek at Inzi. Overnight Ethiopia Hotel.

Day 8: Asossa :- Drive to the Sudan border town of Kumruk , and visit the Berta people extract salt in traditional way. Proceed then to a traditional gold market, where you can admire the way they do their market.In the afternoon visit the Mao & Komo peo-ple, with many scarification all over their body. The Mao men have scarification in the face & chest, while women on the belly. The Komo have their scars on the front & face, and their women on the belly. Overnight Camp/simple hotel

Day 9: Guba-Asossa 

Drive to Guba village, where you find the palace of Dej Azmach Jemal, built during Emperor Menelik reign. and also visit the Blue Nile river,in Sherkole we will visit the Berta people, traditional gold miners, at work. Overnight Camp/simple hotel

Day 10: Koso Ber :- Drive to Kossobe to visit the Gojam and Agew people market and continue drive to to admire another colorful market of Gumuz people. Overnight Camping

Day 11: Bahirdar :- Drive to Bahirdar through the farmland of Gojjam region. we drive to Bezawit Hill to have a panoramic view of the town of Bahir Dar and drive southwest of Bahir Dar to the small town of Tiss Abay to visit the Blue Nile Falls. We will walk some distance to the Fall and visit some of the villages around there. Overnight Hotel

Day 12: Gondar :- In the morning a trip on Lake Tana to visit Ancient Monasteries: Ura Kidane Mehret and Azwa Maryam monasteries( in Zeghe Peninsula). Continue driving to Gondar.On the way after the town of Woreta, visit the Awra Amba village to dis-cover their unique work division. Overnight hotel 

Day 13: Simien Mountains National Park :- Morning we will visit Gondar-Gondar visit includes the palaces, residences and open air baths of King Fasilledes; (World Heritage Site by UNESCO), the monasteries of Qusquom, the church of Debre Berhan Sellassie (Light of the Trinity) with its 16th century paintings and frescoes, which is located at the summit of a hill and surrounded by fortified walls. Afternoon drive to the Semien Mountains National Park. On the way near Gonder, visit Jewish / Felasha village and continue to Debark. Stopover at Kossoye for amazing mountain landscapes. Day 14: Axum :- Drive on the rugged road for a full day's drive to the fabled city of Axum via the lowlands of the Simien Mountains and Tekeze River gorge. Overnight hotel.

Day 15 : Axum :- Today, explore the Queen of Sheba’s Palace, a massive structure with finely mortared stone walls and an impressive drainage system. Continue to the church of Saint Mary of Zion; according to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, it houses the Biblical Ark of the Covenant. Overnight hotel

Day 16: Mekelle Early in the morning Drive to Mekele- en route visit -Yeha Temple- a pagan temple of the 5th C BC and continue visiting, Wukro Cherkos monastery in Wukro area which is rich with its rock churches. Overnight hotel

Day 17 : Lalibela Drive to Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s holiest cities and a center of pilgrimage for most of the country. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known as the “New Jerusalem” due to its monolithic churches and rock-cut architecture-Today we will vist Yimrahine Kirstos cave church. Overnight hotel

Day 18: Lalibela :- Full day visit in lalibela Rock Hewn churches-This rock churches was shaped and formed both inside and out and the carvings show extremely skillful workmanship. Lalibela, the ‘New Jerusalem’, is thought to have been constructed some 800 years ago by King Lalibela. Lalibela was his capital city, but today it is a small village. Our tour this afternoon involves a certain amount of scrambling through a labyrinth of tunnels. The churches stand in two main groups on either side of a stream, known locally as ‘The River Jordan’. There are 11 rock-cut churches of which the most impressive is Bet Giorgis. It is carved in the form of a Greek cross and approached through a passage in the rock. Between them, these rock- cut churches are one of the great wonders of the world.We continue the Second group of churches. Over-night hotel

Day 19: Kombolcha :- Drive from Lalibela to Kombolcha, scenic Route. On the way, visit Hayk Estifanos Monastery. Overnight - hotel

Day 20: Addis Ababa :- Drive to Addis ababa and on the way visit the old palace of Emperor MenelikII in Ankober. If today falls on Sunday we will visit the oromo market at Sembete village. Overnight hotel
